Gencor's Genomic Tested Sire Line
What is Genomics?
Genomics studies the entire genome to find all differences in the DNA of proven bulls. It then uses these differences (genomic profile) to predict the genetic merit of animals that are not proven.
What are GEBVs and GPAs?
In August 2009 Genomic profiles will be included in genetic evaluation at CDN with Geneticially-Enhanced EBVs (GEBV) for animals with genomic profiles. The GPA combines the parent average (PA) with the genomic value of each bull, offering a higher reliability than the PA alone.
Every young bull contracted by Semex is genomic tested, and bull with low genomics do not enter the proving program. The bulls included on Genomax teams are the cream of the crop for the specific traits each team is selected for.
Why use Teams of 5 sires?
Using a group of 5 genomic sires will give the group's average GPA a reliability as high as first crop proven bull's EBV. Since the individual sires genomic merit is very high, using the full team gives you a high rate of genetic improvement, in addition to decreasing the generation interval by using top bulls sooner.
Why Genomax Branded Sires?
Bulls showing the Genomax brand have already been sampled and therefore have official proofs for calving ease and are above average for fertility. You can use these sires with greater confidence because of their actual daughter information.
